Personalized Silver Nantucket Basket Keepsake Jewelry Box

Inspired design by the original Nantucket lightship baskets. In the mid 1800's a ship was commissioned to be stationed off Nantucket Island with a light on it. The light was used to help ships find their way. This "lightship" had sailors posted for long months of duty. To fill their time, the sailors made baskets similar to the ones made by the local Indians. However, they added artistic, scrimshaw decorations on the tops made mostly from whale bone. Nantucket Lightship baskets are still available and popular.
